Rihanna, who was born in Saint Michael and grew up in Bridgetown, Barbados became an audition for Evan Rogers, an American record producer. He invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. She was signed to Def Jam in 2005 and quickly became a household name when she released her debut two studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005) as well as A Girl Like Me (2006). Both were heavily influenced by Caribbean music and made it to the top ten spots on the US Billboard 200 charts. The third album by Rihanna, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) comprised elements of dance music and established her status as a sex icon in the world of music. Rihanna's debut Grammy Award was won for her hit song "Umbrella" that launched Rihanna to international stardom.
